On the north shore of Aegina, just 24 km away from Piraeus the largest port of Greece, lies Souvala, a pine-covered little town. There, with a view of the whole Saronic gulf, from Megara to Varkiza, on the right hand side of the harbour, 20 metres above the sea, stands the three-tiered grounds of Bar - Restaurant - Cafe ANASSA. The Queen, the Lady, the Grande Dame (which is what Anassa means in ancient Greek) opens its doors at 10 am until long after midnight... Reclining lounge chairs in the lower balcony looking out to the deepest blue of the sea are perfect for breakfast or sunbathing, or simply gazing at the golden reflections of the sun upon the water. For those who wish to swim, there is a wooden path leading down to Anassa's tiny private beach, right below. Anassa offers aromatic coffees, exotic cocktails, fresh salads, light, quality dishes including vegetarian dishes, home-made desserts, as well as 70 wine labels from New Zealand to Chile - all these can be served either in the restaurant or in the two lower circular tiers in-between the balconies, on low tables or rattan cushions on the lawn. After midnight, dance beats lure you indoors to dance through the night. The moon rises over Glyfada and transforms the waters of the Saronic Gulf into molten silver, right down to Anassa. There is a strong lingering feeling of traveling on a boat while you are in Anassa...
